Cardiologist specialized in non-invasive cardiovascular imaging and group leader · National Center for Cardiovascular Research (CNIC), Madrid

Dr. Inés García-Lunar is a cardiologist specialized in non-invasive cardiovascular imaging and a group leader at the National Center for Cardiovascular Research (CNIC) in Madrid, where she leads the Cardiovascular Prevention Through Non-Invasive Imaging group. She also serves, together with Dr. Valentín Fuster, as clinical lead of the scientific program on Novel Mechanisms of Atherosclerosis.
After completing her medical and cardiology training in Spain, she pursued further specialization in advanced cardiovascular imaging at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. She has more than 15 years of experience in clinical cardiology, cardiovascular imaging and translational research, with a particular focus on large prospective imaging cohorts. She currently leads the imaging committee of the PESA (Progression of Early Subclinical Atherosclerosis) and REACT (Early Cure of Atherosclerosis) studies.
Her research focuses on the early detection of subclinical atherosclerosis and on the longitudinal assessment of its natural history using multimodality non-invasive imaging, including vascular ultrasound, coronary CT angiography and cardiovascular magnetic resonance. A major goal of her work is to translate imaging-derived knowledge of early atherosclerotic disease into individualized and precision-based cardiovascular prevention strategies.
